Old Vintage Shaving Mug by Eugene Berninghaus of Cincinnati Ohio.  Eugene Berninghaus was the first person to design and manufacture Barber Shop Chairs in the United States. Eugene Berninghaus's  trademark is on the bottom of the mug as well as Limoges' mark.  Please see photos. The Limoges mark, WG & C (Limoges' William Guerin & Co), indicates that the mug was made in France between 1900 and 1932. It is numbered 739. The mug is personalized with the name: J.T. Palmatary. There is a lot of wear especially on the gold trim: top, bottom, and handle. A few areas on the black glaze has lost a little of the original shine and the glaze is a little dull.  Please see photos. The body of the mug is in good condition. I haven't found any chips.  The "X" on the bottom as well as some tiny imperfections were done when the mug was made and are not damage after manufacture. Shaving Mug weighs about 14 ounces. Note: After the Civil War, beards fell out of fashion.  For sanitary reasons, barber shops would keep men's personal shaving mug for their regular customers on hand.  The mugs would have their customer's name on them to make it easy to identify their  personal mug.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
