c. 1860 Large Wedgwood Majolica Celadon Portrait Tile of Woman
Up for sale it this beautiful and very large majolica portrait tile by Wedgwood that dates to 1860. The tile measures 8” W X 12 5/8” H and the glaze is a very nice celadon green. The back is appropriately marked with the impressed WEDGWOOD makers mark and the date code GKO. The words "no 4 Celadon" are written in black script.
This tile is 157 years old and in incredible original condition. There is some minor crazing and minimal surface scratches. There is some wearing through of the gloss along the bottom edge but it mainly limited to the bottom left corner. There are two tiny fleck chips to the top edge about 2” in from the left corner and two surface flecks on the edge near the top right corner edge. A few insignificant smaller than flea size flecks but overall the edge are nice and straight. Lots of pictures that accurately show the condition
