CGC 9.2 Qualified, not SS (Signature Series, where CGC has to be present). Looks 9.8 to me, IMO this batch of signed comics got graded way harder than the ones without signatures. I'm not sure if they are counting the signature as a date or stamp, I certainly hope not as I will explain that is what the qualified part is for, supposedly. They did however count the ink against the grade (think they'd do that if it were a SS event?). What they mean by qualified: "EVERYTHING BUT THE SIGNATURES QUALIFY TOWARDS THE GRADE".  This is because  CGC does not verify signatures retroactively, but only when they are present for the signing.  If the signatures are real, it can add to a grade (or at the very least the overall appeal), if not it will detract from the grade like a stamp or a date. They are real however, and I just found out they can be sent to CBCS, where they do retroactively verify signatures :-)  Certainly where my signed comics are going from now on. Though CGC does a great job on unsigned comics and their Signature Series has its merits, especially for promoting deserving artists at events. No pressing or restoration has taken place.

  • Condition: CGC 9.2 Qualified, not SS. This looks like a 9.8. This grader had something against the signed copies I sent but NOT the unsigned ones for some reason. I mean this looks MINT next to the non-signed 9.2 I have (other than the ink blots, but I think that's part of the art! A little extra ink from Louis and Walt Simonson, oh no!). Grader notes: "bend left bottom of back cover, multiple INK smear right center of front cover..." and for that a NM-! No pressing or restoration took place! As for what they mean by qualified: CGC doesn't accept responsibility for the signature as real or as a defect and so "EVERYTHING BUT THE SIGNATURE QUALIFIES TOWARDS THE GRADE." This is because CCC IS NOT ABLE TO VERIFY SIGNATURES RETROACTIVELY, but only when they are present for the signature. If you are looking to verify the signatures, CBCS can do it (where I'm sending my signed comics from now on). Send this one to CBCS and get it authenticated (it'd even grade better when they aren't counting ink..).
