It's signed by performers who played on all four days of the seminal 1960s music festival, including Joe Cocker, Stephen Stills of Crosby, Stills and Nash Jefferson Airplane co-founder Marty Balin and Paul Kantner, Joe McDonald of Country Joe and the Fish, Johnny Winter and one of the five musicians who backed up Jimi Hendrix at the end of the festival. Photograph signed "Cynthia/Robinson", "Stephen Stills", "WAVY G", "Tom Constanten", "Jerry Martini", "John/Sebastian", "Johnny/Winter", "Joe Cocker", "With Love/Melanie/[drawing of a flower]", "Marty Balin", "Juma Sultan" and "Country Joe", all in blue ink. McDonald also added the FCC-unfriendly version of "The Fish Cheer" near the top left corner: "gimme a F/gimme a U/gimme a C/gimme a K". Color, 14x10¾, with authentication label in bottom right corner. This photo is of an advertisement for Woodstock (1970), Michael Wadleigh's Oscar-winning documentary of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Festival. is signed by performers who appeared on all four days of the now-legendary concert. Political activist WAVY GRAVY (given name Hugh Romney) was master of ceremonies (and the only person to appear on the bill at all three Woodstock festivals). He was also part of the Hog Farm Collective hippie commune, which was put in charge of security at Woodstock. Wavy Gravy called this odd security force the "Please Force" based on their low-key methods at keeping order. MELANIE (given name Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk) was one of the last acts on Aug. 15, the first day of the festival. She performed before Arlo Guthrie and Joan Baez. BALIN was a co-founder of Jefferson Airplane, which closed out the festival's second day on Aug. 16. McDONALD was lead singer for Country Joe and the Fish. He had a solo performance as the third act of Aug. 16. He also joined Country Joe and the Fish for a short set after Joe Cocker on Aug. 17, the last official day of the festival. Country Joe and the Fish went on a rainstorm that briefly ground the festival to a halt. They played after Country Joe and the Fish's set on Aug. 17. SEBASTIAN performed immediately after Country Joe and the Fish on Aug. 16; he had left The Lovin' Spoonful in 1968 and performed as a solo act. MARTINI and ROBINSON were, respectively, saxophonist and trumpeter with Sly and the Family Stone, which played after Grateful Dead and Creedence Clearwater Revival. COCKER opened the third and last official day of the event, Aug. 17. He got started at 2 p.m. and was preceded by several instrumentals by the Grease Band. A thunderstorm opened up after Cocker's set and delayed the event for several hours, pushing its end into the early hours of Aug. 18. Blues man JOHNNY WINTER appeared with his brother Edgar Winter early on Aug. 18. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, which included STILLS, performed after the Winters and was one of the last acts at Woodstock. But the honor of last act went to Jimi Hendrix's Gypsy Sun and the Rainbows, which included SULTAN; they were billed as The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Lightly creased and bowed. Some signatures touch. Light scratches on image. Otherwise, fine condition.
