This was Western's classic Bowie model that was introduced in the early to mid 1960's and was a popular private purchase weapon among soldiers serving in Vietnam. The knife was made in the Western plant in Colorado, as this was made before Camillus bought Western and closed the plant. These older W-49 knives are notorious for their fine steel and cutting ability. The knife has not been used, carried, or sharpened and remains in excellent condition with just a bit of light storage/handling wear. The knife has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original. This knife was probably one of Western's most popular. They were solidly built and well-suited as camp knives. The carbon steel blade was crisply ground and has a deeply mirrored finish. It's completely free of any corrosion or pitting, showing just a couple small spots of minor carbon haziness. The edge is free of any flaws and remains very sharp. The over-sized double guard is of brass and is in the classic relaxed "S" shape. The guard remains rock-solid and completely tight. The massive handle is of laminated hardwood and really fills the hand. The wood was highly finished and still displays its full factory luster. The thick scales were tightly pinned and are free of any dents, scratches, gouges, or any other flaws. The handle on this example is about as nice as they come. The blade 9-1/4" and the knife measures 14-1/2" in overall length. The sheath is the original and has that classic Western appearance. The sheath remains in excellent condition with just a bit of light storage wear. It was crafted from thick, heavy leather and has a swiveling belt loop attachment. It's free of any cuts, tears, loose/missing stitching, or any dryness/cracking. It's a very nice sheath that was very solidly built. If you're a Western collector/enthusiast, or simply appreciate classic American knives, this is an excellent example of this fine knife that's about as fine as they come. A superb, original example of this Western classic!! The knife will be shipped insured which is included in the shipping costs. I'll cover any additional insurance required by the purchase price. Sorry, no international shipping. Please do not ask. Brand: Camillus
