This is a grouping of 25 assorted ORIGINAL WWII American V-Mail letters with covers, written by a number of different officers and soldiers serving in various operational theatres at various stages of the war. Some were written in forward areas, including several written during active combat operations, in places such as Italy, France, Belgium, and various locations in the Pacific. Others were written in staging areas such as England and Hawaii. There are letters written by men in various types of units, including infantry, artillery, cavalry, engineers, and signal corps.

*** This grouping consists of a variety of miscellaneous letters written by a number of different officers and soldiers. Most were combat troops. Several of the letters were written by soldiers who were engaged in frontline combat operations at the time of writing.

The letters include :

* Three letters written shortly after arriving overseas by an officer in the 29th Infantry Division. This officer landed at Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day in June 1944. He was awarded 3 Bronze Star medals (one for his actions on D-Day), and also the French Croix de Guerre.

* Four letters written in France in 1944 by an officer who served as a platoon leader in the 324th Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division. This officer was later wounded in Germany, in April 1945.

* Two letters written in 1944, on the front lines in France and Belgium, by a soldier in the 557th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, 84th Infantry Division.

* Two letters written at the front in Italy in July 1944, during a period of heavy fighting (including a letter written on 24 July 1944, the day his Division captured Pisa), by a soldier in the 363rd Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division. Also two letters written earlier in Italy and North Africa by the same soldier.

* One letter written in March 1945, during mountain fighting in Italy, by a Chief Warrant Officer in the 135th Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division.

* Four letters written in May 1944, during the mopping up stages of the Admiralty Islands campaign, by a soldier in the 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division.

* One letter written in 1944, after the Battle of Saipan, by a soldier in the 105th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division.

* One letter written in Italy in March 1944

by a sergeant in the 30th Signal Construction Battalion.

* Two letters written in New Guinea in 1944 by a soldier in the 167th Infantry Regiment, 31st Infantry Division. Fought in New Guinea and the Philippines.

* One letter written in May 1944 by a soldier in the 112th Engineer Combat Battalion. This battalion landed in Normandy on D-Day.

* Two letters written in 1944 at the 75th Station Hospital in Hawaii.

The letters themselves are all in good condition. Some of the covers have wear and damage.
