This is a fascinating and visually striking Vintage Mid Century Modern Southwest Native American Navajo Indian Painting, Acrylic on Artist board, by midcentury Arizona painter, Potier. I have not been able to find any biographical information on this artist, and his pieces very seldomly come up for sale. Perhaps you know more about them or their work? This piece depicts two identical figures, in traditional indigenous garments, and tall and stylized stovepipe hats. Their faces are blank, and a minimalist approach is taken to their artistic portrait. Their stance, and their twin-like depiction is reminiscent of the infamous Grady Sisters, from Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (1980.) Bold hues of various shades of orange, brown, and black make this artwork stand out from across a room, in addition to the tasteful orange and black matting and frame. This piece likely dates to the late 1960's - 1970's. Approximately 23 x 28 inches (including frame.) Actual visible artwork is approximately 14 1/4 x 19 1/4 inches. Very good condition, with some light scuffing and edge wear to the original period vintage frame. Additionally, an old, yellowed gallery label on the verso reads: "Certificate of Authenticity. Artist: POTIER. Title of Work of Art: Indian Women. Medium: Original Acrylic Drawing - Signed. Registration Number: 74-13603. Robert Sills Gallery, Inc." It is also hand signed in ink by the gallery owner, Robert Sills. Acquired in Pasadena, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
