Seller: greyhair67 (225) 100%, Location: Columbus, Ohio, Ships to: US, CA, BS, UY, Item: 273959967650 Please read the entire description and inspect all the photographs before bidding on this item. This listing is for a US Navy Bureau of Ships Mark II sextant produced during WWII. The serial number is 14388-1942, and it was placed into service February 10, 1944. The serial numbers on the sextant, the identifying plaque on the box, and the Certificate of Inspection all match. The following items are included:1. The sextant with its telescope.2. Two Stanley Yankee screwdrivers. One is a No. 95 and the other a No. 2590.3. Bronze thumbscrew-style adjusting tool.4. Two spare mirrors. Note that these mirrors are in poor shape - they are likely the original installed mirrors.5. Mahogany plywood box with all hardware and the key to the lock. The key is not original, but it works in the lock.6. A "Certificate of Inspection" dated 2/10/1944. The sextant arm and its micrometer mechanism operate smoothly and the arm moves throughout its range without binding. The installed mirrors are in near perfect condition. The seven colored filters are complete and undamaged. Note that the blue filter is a replacement (the frame is original.) For some unknown reason the blue colored filters on these sextants tended to deteriorate into a crumbly, chalky mess. The new blue filter is slightly thicker than the others. The black anodizing on the frame and telescope shows some wear. Most of this should be obvious in the photos - the worn areas show the bare aluminum of the frame and telescope. The telescope optics are clear and the focusing ring rotates smoothly. The box is in good condition for its age. There are a few scratches, mostly on the top and bottom but none are severe. The top of the box shows some odd jagged, fine lines. I don't know if this is part of the wood grain or tiny cracks in the finish. The bottom is worn on all corners, and there is a small (approx. 1" x 1/2") chip in the veneer. The last two pictures show all six sides of the box so you can evaluate its condition. The discrepancies I note should be clear in the photos. All in all this is a complete and very nice WWII vintage sextant, with evidence that it saw significant use.Shipping charges are actual costs based on weight and size. The sextant will be VERY carefully packed. Local pickup available with no shipping cost.I've tried to be complete and to disclose all problems, but I may have missed something. Please check out all the pictures and do not hesitate to ask about anything. Condition: Used, Condition: See Item Description for details. This sextant is being sold as a collectible item and should not be considered as suitable for navigation., Country/Region of Manufacture: United States
