Item:303516483181Lovely pair of vintage Pewter Sculptures by noted French sculptor Michel Laude made during the 60's or 70's with lots of details throughout. This is Don Quixote on horseback with a long spear. Measures around 12" long, 2" width (base) and 8 1/2" high at the tip of the hat,signed by the artist and marked "etain fin" on the underside. The other one is Sancho Panza on a Donkey; measures approx. 4 1/2"long, 2" width and 5 1/2" high at the tip of the twig and is super cute too, signed on one thigh. Both are in very good condition.These solid pewter figurines are an original creation by Michel Laude. The sculptures were handcrafted in his workshop in Paris, France and are delivered with its tag and certificate of authenticity.These pieces are from the series called ‘ Don Quichotte’. All Michel Laude sculptures parts are made of fine pewter guaranteed more than 95.5% tin and no lead. This piece is very rare and valuable. The artist shot to fame by completing a large sculpture of a figure on a cross which it was on display in the Notre Dame de Bercy. Pewter is made from anore, cassiterite. Its use goes back to Greek times when Homer and Aristotle spoke of it, and Pline quoted the Gallic as being inventors of tinning. After the fall of Carthage, pewter was transported by donkey through Gaul for centuries.
