This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist offering stand dating back to the early Taisho Era (c.1916). This stand is made of Japanese cryptomeria wood in a plum blossom shape and finished with black as well as gold lacquer coating. This was used in a butsudan (Japanese family Buddhism altar) to offer sake or food for deceased ancestors. The stand is made of a 17 piece construction and is a fine example of Japanese wood craftsmanship which can no longer be found today.
Having been in storage for nearly a century, with exception to signs of past use and a missing base plate where the prongs fit into (which does not hamper its functionality), this offering stand remains in very good co ndition. It measures 3 1/2" wide by 3" deep by 2 1/2" tall (8.9 x 7.6 x 6.4 cm).
Please note: The ceramic sake cup shown in pictures 1, 3 and 9 are NOT included in this listing.
