The Greek astronomer Hipparchus credited Eratosthenes as the inventor of the armillary sphere. The name is derived from the Latin word armada which means means bracelet or circle. This is referencing the three copper rings representing the equator, ecliptic, meridians and parallels. This armillary is constructed in the most basic form with a cast iron zodiac base. It would make a stunning focal point for any garden! The sundial needs to be mounted on a flat pedestal in an open area. To align your sundial correctly at 12 o’clock midday, when the sun is due south, stand with your back to the sun and point the arrow away from you – this will be north. Metals: Copper and cast iron Measurements: 25" high x 28" at widest point. Condition: Verdigris and rusting throughout due to elements. Condition: see description, Color: MIXED, Material: CAST METAL & COPPER
