Seller: gettysburgeddie (4,364) 100%, Location: Wells Tannery, Pennsylvania, Ships to: US, Item: 352438206544 Recent Market find, Vintage Egyptian 800 silver bracelet with Authentic? Wedjat or carved Eye of Horus amulets. I have not seen another one like this featuring the carved Wedjat. They were small amulets frequently worn for protection and good health and they were also tucked away in the wrappings of mummies to protect them on their journey to the afterlife. Since this has both the right facing eye symbolizing the sun/ birth and the God Ra and the left facing eye symbolizing the moon/death and the God Thoth (he is associated with arbitration between good & evil as well as the judgement of the dead). I believe these 2 smaller eyes were meant to be placed in a mummies wrappings or may have been at one point.. This is just my theory ;) The mark that is on this is was used from 1906 to current so it was made post 1906 in Egypt. Due to the crudeness of the bracelet I would guess this bracelet dates from between 1910 to the 1940's. Quite possibly made for a souvenir during one of the World Wars or for the Egyptian craze after the discovery of Tutankhamen. They could very well be authentic Wedjat from one of Egypt's 70 million mummies. It was not uncommon for Europeans and some Americans to unwrap mummies in the late 19th century through the 1930's. People would unwrap them for the amulets & trinkets that were hidden in the bandages as novelties at lavish parties as well as for medical learning & examinations. The center Eye is carved from a brownish stone and has a hole through it where it would have been worn on a bracelet, ring or necklace, The smaller ones do not have holes. I am unsure what the smaller ones are made up of, possibly unglazed Faience, clay or soft stone, they seem to be a little less durable than the center one. Both the smaller eyes have old glaze or caked on dirt & crud down in the low spots. All 3 eyes are loose from their mountings as the old glue has given way. The bracelet measures 7-1/4 inches long by almost 3/4 inch wide at the center. This is made of 800 silver, it is hallmarked with an Egyptian hallmark for 800, no town or date letters found anywhere on this. The surrounding stones are Carnelian, Lapis & Amazonite with a small Turquoise in the clasp. . This is in overall very good condition, the silver has remnants of a gold wash which shows a fair amount of wear. The box clasp is in good working order. Just needs those eyes put back in securely. Thanks for the interest, If you would like more photos or better detailed photos just ask. Condition: good, shows wear, 3 wedjat are loose & will need glued in their mountings, Country/Region of Manufacture: Egypt, Brand: Unbranded, Metal: 800 silver
