Such a hopeful and exciting time for building technology. The Round Homes were so Exotic and Futuristic! From my research, apparently in the mid-60's, a joint venture by the Southeastern Forest Experiment Station and the Forest Products Laboratory hired these architects to collaborate on producing several designs for low cost wood homes. L. O. Anderson (LeRoy Oscar) was from Madison Wisconsin and Harold F. Zornig, Athens Georgia. Several of the designs were included in public service announcements. The estimated cost for construction was about 1/2 the cost of a standard design tract home at the time. However, the actual construction costs were higher than estimated. Three of these homes created for that project are featured in this book: The Round House, The Tubular Home and the Hillside Duplex.
