Seller: sar8w2y (2,053) 100%, Location: Alameda, California, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 162619108253 Color, linen-finish postcard showing two Pacific Coast marvels of the age: the new San Francisco / Oakland Bay Bridge and a Pan Am Martin 130 Clipper. Card shows not only the magnificent span between San Francisco and Yerba Buena Island, but also the cantilever section between the island and Oakland, now being dismantled as fast as possible because it would be really embarrassing if an earthquake knocks down the iffy $6 billion (that's right - billion) unsound new bridge and the original cantilever bridge remains standing, which the politicians and contractors said is not earthquake proof, though did just fine in 1989. The Martin 130 Clippers, of which there were three, the China Clipper, Hawaii Clipper and Phillipine Clipper inaugurated heavily subsidized transpacific airmail and passenger service beginning in 1935 and 1936 respectively, though were iffy in terms of reliability and schedules, failing to match the Graf Zeppelin crossing in 1929. Based on the direction of the Clipper, this view is circa 1937 when the bridge was newly completed and Pan Am still flew from Alameda. Service would move to Treasure Island in 1939 as an attraction for the World's Fair and remain there until the US entry into WW2. Card is posted in October 1942 and bears one cent green Statue of Liberty industry/agriculture defense stamp. Very good condition. Thank you for looking at this and my other auctions. Please note: eBay does not take into account buyer preferences for mail types, i.e. standard, priority, etc., or packaging for specialized items. Envelopes with a rigid object, such as a card or other ephemera protected to prevent damage in transit are now defined by USPS as packages instead of letters. Mailing price quoted is generated by mandatory eBay calculator which is typically inaccurate. High value items will be mailed by registered mail with accompanying signature verification receipt card. This will result in a higher cost than that generated by the eBay mail cost calculator, which does not provide for this specific PayPal requirement for buyer and seller protection. I am happy to work with winning bidders toward the best cost solution for packaging and postage. If there is an overage, I will refund the outstanding amount to buyer's PayPal account. As per eBay requirements, I list five days in which I will send an item after receiving payment, though typically ship sooner. If I am unable to ship within this time, I will let you know complete details via email. Note that I am required to list that I do not accept returns, though in spite of this inflexible eBay designation, I do accept returns on an item-by-item basis as situations arise. If you feel that the service you receive does not warrant a five star rating, please contact me so we can resolve any outstanding concerns. eBay treats anything lower as a request to terminate a seller's account, charge a seller more to list items and make it difficult for buyers to find a seller's items. My feedback record since 1999 demonstrates that you can bid with confidence and you will be treated fairly and honestly.
