BUYERS NAME: As for items we sell on eBay, in an effort to respect the feelings and privacy of the recipient's descendants, we seldom reveal the original recipient's name in our listing. Both of these invoices contain the original recipient's name - we have digitally removed his name from the listing's photographs. CITY & STATE: Arcadia, Indiana. WATERMARKS: One invoice bares a watermark but the manufacturer's name is not discernable. FOLDS: Each invoice appears to have two vertical folds / creases. HOLES, TEARS, DAMAGE: The larger of the two invoices is in very good condition. The smaller invoice has tears and edge damage along the top edge of the invoice (as though it had been protruding from a notebook). ADDITIONAL NOTES: The illustration of the building (from a hand engraving) is very detailed (even when viewed under high-magnification). Wagons, carriages, horses and people standing on the sidewalk are clearly visible (as are their shadows). The company's name appears twice on the face of the building's illustration as well as the year of their founding (1884). The side of the building displays many of the products they carry: Shelf hardware, heavy hardware, tinners supplies, iron and steel, carriage and wagon wood work, springs and axles, carriage trimmings, guns, ammunition. ABOUT THE ITEM: This listing is for TWO invoices. The invoice's recipient resided in Arcadia, Indiana (43 miles from where the hardware company was located). His name appears on both invoices. As for the VanCamp Hardware and Iron Company, the 1908 edition of The Indianapolis Board of Trade listed Cortland VanCamp as President; Raymond P. VanCamp and Samuel G. VanCamp were also listed as being associated with the company. In various 1920's editions of the Indiana Construction Recorder, VanCamp Hardware heavily advertised they carried the "Smith Panic Devices" (Frank F. Smith Window Hardware Co., Newark, NJ), for doors (panic bars that allowed doors to open - even if bodies piled up against them). The company, in addition to hardware supplies, also distributed guns, scales and bicycles. It appears the original building (illustrated on the front of each invoice) was long ago razed. DISCOUNTS: Due to the rarity and oddity of these original invoices, no discounts are being offered to museums, colleges, universities, or libraries wishing to expand their collections. WARRANTY and/or RETURNS: These historical invoices are subject to individual interpretation. We have made every effort to list the information and condition as accurately as possible and included sharp photographic images: Thus, no warranty or returns on these items.
