From these mountain ranges, numerous mineral resources have been extracted since ancient times.  Particularly famous are minerals such as gold, silver, and crystal.  The Takeda clan, prominent feudal lords who were based in Yamanashi and flourished around 500 years ago during the Warring States period, utilized the abundant gold resources to strengthen their military forces and dominate the surrounding regions.  They produced such high-quality gold in large quantities. Thus, the mineral resources of Yamanashi Prefecture have not only influenced politics but also contributed to the development of the local economy and industry.  The technology for processing the extracted precious metals has thrived in such an environment. The jewelry industry in Yamanashi originated from the crystals mined in the region centered around Kinpu-san, one of the mountains belonging to the Okuchichibu mountain range and part of the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park, with an altitude of 2,599 meters.  It has developed alongside the technology for processing precious metals such as gold and has a history spanning over 200 years. From the late Meiji era (around 1890) to the early Taisho era (around 1915), the polishing of crystals transitioned from manual polishing to mechanical polishing.  There was also an increase in exports abroad, with crystal crafts and crystal necklaces being exported to countries like the United States and China.  This led to Yamanashi being known worldwide as the "land of crystals."  Even today, many skilled artisans continue the tradition of crystal processing in Yamanashi. Japan has a long history of intricate craftsmanship, with Yamanashi being the center of gemstone processing technology. This crystal necklace is a product of centuries-old techniques, perfected and passed down from ancient times to the present day.
