SOVIET GOGGLES   late 1980s issue in unmarked box, Unissued, one size fits all

Comes with an instruction sheet plus a short length of cotton cloth for cleaning the lenses. Intended to protect the wearer's eyes from direct blasts of air, the dozens of tiny ventilator holes in the frames would have kept the lenses from steaming up in hot or humid weather.

Prime example of traditional Soviet gear, very similar to goggles worn during late WW2.

Good, unissued condition. There will be some corrosion from having sat in an unheated warehouse for many years:  for example, the metal lens frames will have some dark areas and there will be small areas of rust and/or corrosion on the metal parts. (Our photographs are of a sample pair to show you what an average pair looks like, the pair you receive will be similar.) The white threads seen on the dark blue lining are not repairs but are part of what holds the goggles together! They were  there when the goggles  were first manufactured in a Soviet factory. (Almost all of these goggles have dark blue linings, but a few have a different color lining, so do not be surprised if the lining is not dark blue! Also, the color of the elastic band may vary) The staples holding the box together have rusted just from ambient humidity and the cardboard will be slightly stained from the rust – Soviet era staples were generally not made of stainless steel and they frequently rusted like this !

Make no mistake, although these goggles were still used in civil aviation in as late as the 80s (for example, by pilots dusting the crops), they were no longer exclusively for aviators  and had been adopted for wide variety of uses, mainly as protective gear by industrial workers. The design remained however almost exactly the same as WW2 pilot’s goggles so these would be great for a WW 2 aviation display – especially considering that a pair of original Soviet goggles of WW2 era would be astronomically expensive and next to impossible to find anyway.

PLEASE NOTE:  The lenses are not made of tempered plastic  and we cannot tell how securely the Soviet factory mounted them into the metal frames.

We sell these as Cold War historical curios only and offer absolutely no warranties that these will protect you from anything at all.

If you wear them, you wear them at your own risk!
