Seller: wbm01 (2,266) 0%, Location: Auburn, Massachusetts, Ships to: US, Item: 130943633465 I have way too many models and too little time to build them all...so it's time to let this wonderful U.S.S. CONSTITUTION kit by Bluejacket Shipcrafters find a new home. The U.S.S. CONSTITUTION, launched in 1798, was one of six frigates designed by Joshua Humphreys as the centerpieces of the fledgling United States Navy. She was 204 feet long and boasted three masts, an exceptionally strong wooden hull, 32 long guns and 20 cannonades, and a working crew of about 450 men. She made her name during the War of 1812, capturing numerous merchant ships and defeating five British warships, including the H.M.S. Guerriere, and never losing a battle. It was during the ferocious battle with Guerriere that British seamen, amazed at how their cannonballs just bounced off CONSTITUTION’s hull, cried out, "Sir, her sides are made from Iron!" Hence, her famous nickname, "Old Ironsides." Today, CONSTITUTION, the world's oldest commissioned warship still afloat, serves as an inspirational national symbol and landmark docked in Boston, MA. She is a true national treasure. The Bluejacket Shipcrafters kit is the only wooden kit that presents CONSTITUTION as she appeared during her most glorious years during the War of 1812. The kit's accuracy is based on three years of painstaking research by Larry Arnot, checking original deck logs and maintenance records. As a testament to its authenticity, the kit has been named “The Official Kit of the U.S.S. COSTITUTION Museum", and the built version of this kit is the one model that is on official display at the museum. The kit includes a large, carved basswood hull, multiple wood strips and dowels for planking, masts and spars and contains over 2600 wood and metal fittings and multiple sizes of scaled rigging cord. For safety, the metal fittings are made of Britainnia metal, not lead. The kit also includes three large build plan drawings and a detailed twelve page instruction booklet. This 1:96 scale kit (1/8 " = 1') builds to a truly impressive model of this iconic American warship. When complete, the model is 40" long and 28" high. The kit is for the experienced modeler who is looking for a challenge and the opportunity to bring a slice of American history to life. This kit has been stored since I purchased it at an estate sale more than 10 years ago. It has never been started and the fittings are still sealed in their original packaging. I've checked the contents and the kit appears complete. However, I have not counted each individual piece. Tools, glue, paint and other building supplies/equipment are not included and must be provided separately. Please review the photos and ask any questions prior to bidding.
