Item:233413889452This unusual 3-strand necklace is made of old translucent blue roman glass mosaic beads with gold accents. Some of the accents have white or cream highlights, but white has no real prominence in the color. The blue and gold of the beads are accentuated with the noble old oxidized silver of 6 large Ethiopian beads. There are tiny Ethiopian silver heishi spacers between the roman glass beads. The exact content of the silver is not known, however, the large beads appear to be of very high silver content, while the heishi beads are likely low silver content. The blue of the translucent glass beds is magically rich. The longest of the three strands is 23" long, the shortest is 18". The glass beads are approximately 6-8mm, while the large silver beads are approximately 12x14 mm. This magical necklace could be worthy of being worn by an ancient princess. The art of making translucent blue glass beads dates back to the Roman Empire. The exquisitely beautiful glass beads in this necklace were represented as ancient roman by the antique dealer they came from, but the exact age of the beads or their provenance is not known. Ethiopian jewelry goes back to antiquity. Since the days of the legendary queen Sheba, Ethiopian gold-and silver-smiths created exquisite adornments, which to this day are the pride of many renowned museums. Ethiopian jewelry has been influenced by the heritage of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, all of which have found a place in this mountainous land. We admire the beautiful Stars of David, ornate Ethiopian crosses, and Islamic prayer beads for their spectacular and intricate work. Antique Ethiopian silver beads in our collection live alongside the ancient beads and gemstones. Their unique beauty is always a centerpiece of any jewelry design. Condition:New, Color:Blue
