My oldest, Merritt, was five when I painted the first "Lamplight Lane" painting; soon she'll be a high school graduate. I even included a small rowing skiff, named "Miss Merritt", to symbolize the journey into life that Merritt is embarking upon. Sunset on Lamplight Lane refers both to the radiant sunset that bathes the village in myriad reflections, and to the completion of the final work in an epic series of paintings. 2) The CrossAs part of the redesign of the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina, I was asked to provide an image for use on a large wall. A very large wall – truly a moment of destiny for any artist. To create the oil painting that would be the basis for the final mural, I utilized one of the largest canvases I have ever attempted in my studio. A full 6 feet wide, this canvas would be enlarged to create the final epic sized mural. As I worked it was as if heavenly light began to pour upon the canvas.A final aspect of the creative process came when Franklin Graham himself suggested a fitting title for the work: The Cross. This simple title reflects the lifelong calling and legacy of his father, the evangelist Billy Graham. My prayer is that this painting will bring hope to many just as Billy Graham has brought hope to millions through the gospel message. 3) Sweetheart CottageFor the second work in my Sweetheart Cottages collection, I've conjured a vision of a perfect romantic hideaway. "Falbrooke Thatch" is nestled right next to a charming little waterfall, with an arched footbridge leading from the front door over the falls. I've devoted "Falbrooke Thatch" to Valentine's Day (note the 214 address just below the heart-shaped window) and to romance. In fact, I've hidden hearts throughout the painting. The more hearts you can find, the more romantic you are. 4) Evening at Autumn LakeAutumn is a special time of year. When the crisp cold air flows down from the north and the leaves explode into vibrant hues of orange, yellow and red, one gets a sense of time passing, of another year coming to an end. It is the last flash of color before the world falls into winter and the promise of spring's rebirth begins. Evening at Autumn Lake captures that time of year when the nights become long and the world readies itself for a nap under a snowy blanket. Thom loved this season for the color it provided his palette, but also for the mood it created in the mountains he roamed as a young man. My brother and I grew up in the Sierra-Nevada's and that majestic range is where he first honed his immense talents as a landscape artist.Evening at Autumn Lake is reminiscent of the years that Thom spent capturing that wonderment and the time given to dreaming that this work would someday be able to translate his feelings about the environment to everyone who viewed it. The small cabin in the mountain valley brims with life as horses are allowed to graze. Canoes, drawn ashore, await their passengers and the lights in the cabin windows speak of the commotion going on inside. Evening at Autumn Lake reminds us that we should not only appreciate the beauty of the world but also that we recognize our opportunity to live harmoniously within it. God created "the garden" as a gift to man; mankind's stewardship of God's gift is an honor given back to the Creator. The wheel turns, the earth abides and we, here in our moment, are part of that cycle of life and the glory and triumph of its eternal renewal. -Patrick Kinkade It is our highest goal and best intention to provide exemplary customer service.
