The CUP OF TIDES! Mug/Cup Tankard Unknown Ancient Drinking Vessel Beaker

$25,000.00 or Best Offer Unsold

Seller: festoonz (1,272) 100%, Location: Milford, Massachusetts, Ships to: US, Item: 332332307576 Since I found this interesting cup, which I have since named "The Cup of Tides", because I believe the decoration actually depicts High Tide and Low Tide. Mouth diameter is 3 5/8" and flare out down bottom to 4 7/8". Height is 5 5/16". If memory serves me, last I weighed this about a year ago, it was exactly 2 lbs. What better to put on the side of a drinking vessel. Unusual flared design sits perfectly flush on a flat surface. I wonder if the handle was added on later because it doesn't look consistent to each other. The cup by itself looks like a beaker, however once the handle was made, is more of a mug or tankard. Obviously, I showed this to a few museums and an archaeologist society did speak with me about it however had no idea to it's origin, or even attempted to guess. . Any ideas or comments about it's origin would be most appreciated. As far as pricing goes, I am hesitant to sell at the current asking because I have seen 18th century mugs go for considerably even more than my asking price for this unknown Cup of Tides. I have looked at thousands of tankards/cups/beakers, and found nothing like nor could I find anything with a similar artistic pattern. Thanks for looking! Condition: see pictures
