Item:254502920569Tang Dynasty Male Equestrian Figure - CHINA - 618 to 907 AD Male figure astride a horse, created to accompany the deceased in the afterlife. Originally held a wood or bronze staff, now missing. Horse has a very animated face ! Painted overall in a white slip, with highlights of black, brown and orange. Some remains of paint and much dirt encrustation from centuries of burial. Proper right ear of horse missing. Small chips throughout. Possible professional repairs to this fragile figure. Finger marks inside the belly opening attest to the age and authenticity of the piece. Please examine photographs carefully. Purchased years ago at auction, these are part of my personal collection that I am selling to downsize.
