Columnar idol figures were modeled as votive statues by ancient Near Eastern cultures who believed the figures posessed fertility protective poweres. This superb example dates to the 2nd millineum BC. This mother Goddess is 6" tall and 2" wide. She has a bird-like head with a pinched nose and and a fancy incised diadem or tiara. She has coffeebean eyes. She is wearing a necklace and ear oraments and she is holding a baby to her breast which is rare and maked her very desirable. She is 100% intact. There is some repair work where the baby is being held in the incised hands of the mother. Just a beautiful mother goddess figure.
