This example is a Hyskos period scarab of the 15th - 17th Dynasty c. 1750 - 1550 B.C. These are defined with geometric magical swirls and well sculpted bodies.The Scarab was an ancient and magical manifestation of the god Khepri - an early version of Ra the sun god. To the ancient Egyptians the scarab beetle rolled the sun across the sky, its name in ancient Egyptian means "to come into being". This was a popular amulet, worn as pendants and used on finger rings throughout the Egyptian lands.This scarab is beautifully cut with full anatomic details of the beetle, the underbelly cut with two magical swirls each ending with an "ankh" (hieroglyphics) representing life.
