Seller: number-one (399) 100%, Location: Los Angeles, California, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 172347110218 This is a very nice wind-up doorbell from the late 1800's. The bell is actuated by pressing the button, similar to a modern electric doorbell. The bell is rewound by turning the bell to the right. The bell will ring for about 25 two second rings before it needs to be rewound. Wind-up bells are very practical since most users are familiar with a push button to ring a bell. In addition they are very easy to install with minimal damage to the door, or wall where they are installed. The outside of the door only requires 2 small screws or tacks to hold the button plate and a 1/8" hole for the rod. This bell is made of brass/bronze and the back plate is made of iron. The bell and back plate have a shiny dark bronze finish with the raised design highlighted in bright copper. This bell design is often seen as twist bells but this bell is a little bigger. The bell is 3 3/4" in diameter and the back plate is 5" in diameter. The equally nice 2 1/4" diameter push button is cast bronze/brass with a design that would look good on any house. The 8" hardened rod can be cut to mount the bell on a door or wall. The bell is in excellent near mint condition and does not appear to have been used. Near mint because the brass gears are tarnished. The beautiful finish looks like it was applied yesterday and not 100 years ago. If you are looking for a high quality authentic antique bell for your front door you may want to consider this bell.
