Item:20264028759910 mm High (approx 4") 3rd Millenium BC Sweet terracotta vessel likely from eons old Mohenjo Daro culture of West Asia. Two large outstretched snakes in central band bracketed above and below by coiled snakes and typical geometric designs. Snakes are cool creatures that were revered in many ancient cultures as protectors of health and well-being. It wasn't until Christianity that they were reviled as 'evil serpents' and low belly sorts that were to be avoided and killed. Due to its diminutive size, this was probably a vessel for libation but that is only speculation on my part. It is cool and the perfect size for a desk or a small shelf. Intact and in Excellent condition. Stands stable with no wobble. I bought it a dozen years ago at an estate sale in the Bay Area. -------------------------- California Sales Tax is charged on all sales made within or shipped within the State of California.
