Seller: antebellumcovers (2,518) 100% Top-Rated Plus, Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 152651954755 Slave bill of sale for Negro (slave) man (boy) named Joe, about 17 years old, for $850, January 14, 1851 to C & H.W. Raquet in Nacagdoches from Barnett Hollingsworth. William Beck Ocliltree at the time was an attorney in the same town practicing law. He signed this bill of sale attesting to it. In addition, he was a delegate to the Texas Secession Convention and signed the Texas Ordinance of Secession also. Ochiltree was a member of the Provincial Congress of the Confederate States of America but resigned in 1862 to return to Texas to raise a regiment of troops He died in 1867 and his autograph appears to be quite rare in that I have been unable through numerous search to find any documents signed by him either pre war or war date. This document is a spectacular combination of a Texas Bill of Sale and Ochiltree's autograph. A wonderful addition to any Texas 10th century paper collection.
