~ IT IS TRULY AMAZING ~
Feast your eyes on this very hard-to-find beautiful Meissen tray in quite excellent condition. It has hand painted scattered flowers AND it is adorned with applied 3D flowers and leaves !
ALL MEISSEN trays are works of art but this one may just take the cake.
No repairs that I can see. No cracks or crazing. Some minor chips on a few of the applied flowers but those are barely visible even with a loupe and surely are not visible to the naked eye. (SEE PICS, ALTHOUGH I DIDN'T TAKE PICS OF THOSE IN PARTICULAR - YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SPOT 1 OR 2 IN MY CLOSE-UPS)
Painted crossed swords blue Meissen hallmark under-glaze on the bottom. (PICS 11 & 12)
Incised numbers/letters as well. (PICS 13 & 14)
There are a few things that make this amazing tray stand out from the rest:
First, there isn’t simply just a large floral spray in the center. Rather the body of the tray is painted with smaller flowers, similar to or actually in the Meissen “scattered flowers” (streublumen) pattern. There are two even smaller blue flowers (SEE CLOSE-UP PICS 7 & 8) that I at first thought were painted insects (also a Meissen talent) but they are not insects - they are definitely blue flowers… just smaller than the rest. During my research/due diligence on Meissen trays, I haven't seen any scattered flowers trays at all. Nor have I come across any applied flower trays. I figure this whole small scattered flowers design is rather unusual for a Meissen square 2-handled tray.
Second, it is further decorated with 28 very small applied flowers in an array of colors.
Third, there are over 100 tiny white (possibly white yarrow or sweet alyssum ) applied flowers all around the perimeter.
Fourth, in addition, there are many leaves and vines winding all around the gilt perimeter. It is quite spectacular.
My parents purchased this 50 years ago – on Dec. 1 st 1983. They kept it hidden away, wrapped and protected in a box in the closet. They probably unwrapped it once a year to admire it, and then quickly wrapped it up again . Pretty sad for the world or at least for a few other people not to be able to see the beauty.
The size is approx. 15” x 15.5” end of handle to end of handle and approximately 1.5” deep. It is quite heavy at 5# 7.4oz. I believe it is a serving tray.
I have no idea of when it was made. Could be anywhere from as early as 1850 to (less likely but as late as) 1950. While I do believe it is at least 75-150 years old with NO GUARANTEES on that , I must remind you that I am not an expert pretty much on anything antique. Not only that, but I am barely knowledgeable on Meissen. My parents were very knowledgeable but they are gone and on this one, my mom only noted the purchase date for this beauty. Therefore, you must judge by my pics, what you already know, and of course you must do your own research on Meissen trays with the qualities this tray possesses.
PHENOMENAL, SPECTACULAR, BREATHTAKING.
Yep – it’s ALL THAT… and MORE!
As I already stated, weight-wise, this is a sturdy, heavy tray with a delicate design, and has the delicate applied flowers, etc., all around. Therefore it needs to be packed super-carefully and probably double-boxed. I want what I sell to get to the buyer in the same condition as when it leaves me. Therefore, shipping and insurance plus adult signature on delivery will be $100. [ I will pay for anything over that. ] If you are in California or the western U.S., it should be less (I don't know how much less). Shipping will be calculated based on buyer's location IN THE 48 CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES.
I sell and ship to the 48 contiguous U.S. STATES ONLY, so...
NO BIDDERS OR SHIPPING OUTSIDE
THE 48 CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES.
Sorry – I will not deal with Customs.
OH YES, THERE ARE NO RETURNS
