Local Pick Up
Up for auction is a rare set of eight Prague chairs originally designed by Josef Hoffmann around 1925. These are also known as the Thonet model 811 chair. Six of the eight chairs were manufactured by FMG and stamped "Made in Poland" (see label). These are earlier examples of this chair and made by Thonet per examples online. Two of the chairs are later models manufactured in Yugoslavia (on each end in the second picture--the backs are little higher and bottom braces are different than the Thonet chairs). Condition: All the caning is in great shape with no holes or breaks. Chairs exhibit normal wear with marks on the legs and arms which is normal from years of use. Can be refinished out if desired. One of the Thonet chairs has a sliver of raising of the lamination on the seat back rung, but could possibly be sanded down for a smooth finish, and one of the Yugoslavia chairs has had new holes drilled on the inside apron and one of the arms shows a little more wear, but it is solid and structurally sound. The last 4 pics show these issues on just this one chair. Otherwise, a perfect set and very unusual to see one this large and in this shape. The Prague chair seems to be making a comeback with designers and enthusiasts. Even Sofia Coppola's New York apartment is adorned with these chairs in her dining room (see pic). Please maximize all photos above as they are part of the description and ask any questions before clicking the "buy it now" option. Local pick up only, or I will work with a shipper of your choice. Chairs can be viewed locally if desired. Payment expected immediately after auctions ends. Thanks for looking
