The plate was made by David Johnston & Co. David Johnston & Co. worked from 1834-1844 in Bordeaux France. David Johnston was of Anglo-Irish decent and moved to France where he opened up a pottery. He also became Major of Bordeaux France from 1838-1842. This plate dates circa 1835. Marked with printed maker and pattern "No. 12". The plate features a rare risque view of a partially nude lady reclined outside. Antique. Around 175 years old. Fair condition for age. 1 chip to rim (pic #5). No other chips, cracks, or repairs. Typical stilt marks. Upon close inspection there is typical crazing. You may notice a few very light utensil marks and light wear when tilted toward the light.
