Seller: mattman9 (804) 100%, Location: Sterling Heights, Michigan, Ships to: US, Item: 302524083036 I am selling a Vintage original watercolor by San Ildefonso artist Ma -Wholo -Peen, a.k.a. (Ralph Roybal). Ralph Roybal is the younger brother of famous San Ildefonso artist Alphonso Roybal (Awa Tsireh). Ralph was born in 1916 and can't find any definitive date for his death. Itis hard to say when this was painted but considering the short average lifespan of Native AmericansI can't imagine it was painted any later than the 1960's. I have seen about a half dozen of Ma-Wholo-Peen paintings and this is the largest and finest exampleof all. This is an absolute gem of Native American artwork and has so much fine detail displayed inthe piece. The coloring is immaculate and really believe this was Ma-Wholo-Peen at his best andwas completed for somebody special to him. This work exceeds all of his other pieces, in the overall quality of work.I have collected Awa Tsireh examples and looked closely at many of his artworks and this work by his brother is as good as Awa's (in my opinion). I have always wondered if his brother helped him complete this piece due to the quality and attention to detail of the painting lends itself more to an Awa Tsireh painting. Upon examination, the entire work has been well cared for over the years and looks great from start to finish. The painting is larger than many Native American paintings of the period and makes for a beautiful centerpiece on a wall. I have had it front and center in our front room and I still see something new in the details each time I stop and look closely at the work. If you collect Native American paintings I truly believe you willbe glad if you are able to add this to your collection. When I purchased it at auction I based my decision on photosbut when I received it I was taken back by the quality presentation in hand. This is one of the few things I have bought that photos didn't do it justice. The size of the frame is approx. 23 inches wide and 20 inches in height. The actual visible display within the mat and frame is approx. 17 inches wide and 13.5 inches in height. I sell only in the USA and will ship the item by either UPS ground or Fedex ground and will insure the item forthe full value paid for auction. This is a final sale item, so please ask any questions prior to purchasing. Thanks forreading.
