INVENTORY SALE - PRICE REDUCED FROM $1,899.99 - GREAT VALUE Title: Standing Figure of a Female Deity. Khmer, Angkor Wat 'Baphuon' Style. Indian Influence. 12th C. Temple Fragmented Figure. Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. Museum Quality! Description: A superb 12th century hand-carved Khmer Sandstone Female Deity Figure 'Pravati', divine Hindu goddess of fertility, stylistically and iconographically executed in traditional Baphuon style, from Khmer mythology. The figure measures approximately 11.75 inches (29.85cm) in height, including the stand. The female deity is masterfully modelled from a solid block of stone, depicted standing in samabhanga with both arms and legs broken, gracefully poised with a voluptuous profile, broad hips and well-defined naked upper body. She is clad in a long sampot worn high at the hips and low at the waist with the navel visible, fashioned with a plain narrow belt and a wide central panel draped in stylized vertical pleats which terminates in a fish-tail motif at the garments hem. XXX Her youthful face with indigenous characteristics has a serene downcast expression, almond-shaped eyes, connected eyebrows above a well-shaped broad nose, smiling lips, and long earlobes. The head is covered in tightly braided hair woven in vertiical rows, rising to a dome-shaped topknot, securely fastened by a jeweled band. XXX Originally chiseled as a full figured image, the fragmented portion is an exquisite example, unaltered, unrepaired, with only minor surface abrasions. She has a well weathered and worn surface with a naturally aged patina of molted variation of brown hues and colour throughout, showing minor degradation, and clear evidence of selective erosion, that developes after extensive exposure to the elements over time. NOTE: SOLD AS PRESENTED WITH A MATTE BLACK STAND. Data Observation: Severed arms and limbs are typically found in images of this type, having multiple breaks from the burial environment in which they were unearthed, which does not detract from the beauty of the piece in anyway, as displayed.
