Seller: barnaclebill13 (1,022) 100%, Location: Middletown, Rhode Island, Ships to: US, Item: 132400350644 A signed, original, 'Nautical Scenic' done freehand with pen and ink, on a very carefully prepared, FINELY SANDED genuine Atlantic Swordfish Bill. '1820'eBay Please Take Notice:A non-restricted, not endangered species.Scientific Name: Xiphias gladiusBiological Classification: SpeciesBelongs to: Xiphias ********************************************************************************SIGNED K. HENRY The swordfish bone measuring ABOUT 20 1/4" overall (w/wooden butt).Dedicated to all men and women of the sea... who live now, in myth, and memory. These ships' sailors are gone. Imagine what is going on here!{the evening before setting sail, a pod of whales hunting giant squid, killing a sperm whale for blubber and ambergris, and some lilies.} All work done by me, Keith A. Henry. KOOSJ Please look closely at the pictures, much care was given to fine detail. Even the 'parentheses' are all matched! The wood on the butt ends is laminated mahogany and oak, hand glued and finished with a glossy polyurethane. The bill surface has a very fine, ivory-like, 'smooth-as-glass' texture which allows for beautiful expression. The underside, (which is really the top side) of the sword is smooth and clean. This particular swordbill is cut from the tip of the sword, very solid indeed. . The traditional India ink used is very stable, but would come off with moderate scraping, or excessive handling (skin oils). There has been absolutely no noticeable degradation of ink in more then 35 years. I am still amazed! This work is not as old as most, maybe 5-10 years? The ink in my work has not faded or degraded in 35 years of practice.eBay has made it known to me that the species (Xiphias gladius) should constantly be mentioned, or it will be automatically removed from listings. Please keep in mind these lines are all drawn freehand, and a magnifier is used throughout the process.( A compass was used for the half circles on the ends, and a small piece of plastic scrap used to make a curve or straight line now and then...that's it. A mistake is a very time consuming process that doesn't always turn out so well. THESE ARE ABOUT AS PERFECT AS I AM ABLE, still learning!)Shipped in a durable, well packaged tube. Insurance is included in the shipping and handling quote. (FREE)The last 3 photos show a "fresh from the boat" view! They were kept in the 'reffer' aboard ship, and they were now thawing fast! Photos of New Bedford, MA, when procured from the ship 'Destiny'!Any questions?OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOArtist Keith A. Henry is also a noted scrimshander in the scarce book :THE SCRIMSHANDER – THE NAUTICAL IVRY WORKER AND HIS ART OF SCRIMSHAW by William Gilkerson, Troubador Press, S.F., 1975.Truly a uniquely styled original. Please inquire about combined shipping as two items may ship together. Returns only if misrepresented (please see all photos). There have been previously made mistakes in wording, but the photos won't mislead. Items shipped fully insured UPS ground or USPS.Questions welcome! A wonderful gift and a must for the collector. When one person is responsible for the procuring, cleaning, woodworking, sanding, polishing, drawing and final inking with the finest of pen points, results are a responsible pride of workmanship. Dedicated to all men and women of the sea... who live now, in myth, and memories. Of all, the memories...Lest' not ever let the memories die! Thanks for looking!
