Seller: trobador (2,318) 100%, Location: Amesbury, Massachusetts, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 252654930146 Roman Glass, a 2,000 year old Vial, Beautiful and Mysterious! From the Mediterranean world, possibly the Ancient Middle East during the Roman period, about 1,800 to 2,000 years ago, comes this beautiful, hand-blown glass vial or container. These very early examples of glass-making are frequently called "Roman glass," but they have been found/excavated all across the ancient Roman empire, not just in Italy. I am surmising that this one comes from ancient Syria, Lebanon, or Palestine. They are much prized and sought after for their shimmering beauty: the shifting colors are due to a process called "irisisation," or iridescence. something that happens over the centuries, giving them a special lustre and mystery. This one is about 2.5 centimeters (about one inch) high., with a visible repairs and a fractured lip. But what a wealth in that inch! Perhaps it originally held perfume or some other precious oil. Like many works of ancient art, it gives off an emanation that transcends generations and centuries. You don't have to be a tycoon to enjoy the power of ancient art. This is a wonderful acquisition at a modest price, and a totally original gift idea. Shipping within the U.S. will be $6. And to see what else I have for sale, please click here. Condition: With a visible repairs and a fractured lip., Material: Glass, Provenance: Ownership History Not Available
