Listing tonight a Rogers Group "Style" Pedestal Base found recently from the Lower East Side of New York City. Description and Size as follows: Mahogany dark colored wood with very detail and ornate wood carvings. Size and dimensions 37 inches in height by 21 1/2 inches wide by 15 inches deep; There are two structural issues that I found 1st one being the end columns which is very square shaped with an acorn shaped ball is missing and secondly a small hairline crack on the display surface about 2 inch in length. The other three corners are intack so it would be possible for a skilled wood craftsman to easily reproduce it. The piece has some nicks here and there do to the sheer age of this Victorian piece. This piece is very substantial in weight. The piece has not been throughly cleaned as far as the intricate detail and I will leave that up to the buyer. Upon obtaining this piece I discovered and have photographed an Internet article and photo of an extremely close similar pedestal now being displayed in the New York Historical Society. The article explains that their pedestal was that for the sculpture "Faust and Marguerite"-their 1st meeting ca. 1885-1899 with similar dimensions as illustrated in Rogers Catalogue. Furthermore their pedestal and group came from the home of John Rogers at 14 W 12th. Street NYC. Then found its way to the 1st Presbyterian Church then gifted to the New York Historical Society. I do believe there are a couple differences such as the middle decorative work and lower side carvings but many similarities to be sure. This pedestal listing I do believe is made by the same company as is the NY Historical Society pedestal and is of the same "theme" perhaps a very close variant. I am listing as well another Rogers "Style" pedestal in another listing a smaller pedestal. This pedestal could easily accommodate the Fugitive Story, Council of War, or Magician groups the larger in the catalog. The Fugitive Story statue photographed in this listing is not included in this listing but rather to show the entire set-up statue with pedestal. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding as all sales are final without return or refund. Pick-up only on this pedestal in Worcester, Ma. 01602. A possible meeting half way if located on the east coast is possible. Please inquire with the seller. My Rogers customers also have used the UPS Store Park Ave. Worcester, Ma. for their shipping needs. Once paid for I'd be happy to transport to the store however all s/h cost is strictly between buyer and the UPS Store. I have other Rogers Groups listed along with two other statue pedestal bases. Thanks for looking.
