This lovely wall shelf was made by Roger Gutheil. Perfect for books, china plates, or figurines.
I assume it is made of cherry wood, as this was one of Roger's favorite woods. It is finished in a cherry stain with a hand rubbed soft shine. (The finish was hard to photograph accurately; I would say that the first photo is the closest to the actual color.
It is beautifully carved with a plate groove on the two internal shelves (which you can best see in the 3rd photo), so that you can display plates on their edge. The skirt is beautifully carved (see final photo) and there is very nice molding at the top.
The shelf is stamped with Roger's incised maker's mark (R.L. GUTHEIL) and hand-dated 1991 .
Prior to his 2012 retirement, Roger Gutheil had crafted fine miniatures for 50 years, creating some of the finest miniatures available. His work was designed as reproductions of the finest examples of 18th & 19th c. furniture in museums and private collections. Each piece is precisely scaled with emphasis on details. The cherry and maple woods were selected for fineness of grain. Painstaking care went into the crafting of each piece, including the intricate carvings, turnings, and moldings. Only the finest wood stains were used, along with hand rubbed lacquer and a wax polish finish. Roger L. Gutheil miniatures are today's valued collection pieces and the heirlooms of tomorrow. Since his retirement, they are increasingly difficult to find and are coveted for their beauty and craftsmanship.
Don't miss this opportunity to make one of Mr. Gutheil's fine works of art your own.
