Ceylon is a country that has been unjustly neglected bytravel writers. The author of this book lived there with his wife in a junglebungalow after retiring from the police force. . this work contains a mixtureof stories revolving around the author's adventures in the surrounding jungle, stories of adopted wildlife they took into their home (sometimes withdisastrous results) and finally some amusing fictional accounts written by theauthor from the standpoint of various animals. There is also much informationabout the history of Sri Lanka, which was fascinating, as the author commentson many of the important historical and cultural sites in the country. Hennessyhas an intimate knowledge of the land and its people, and a poet's eye for sceneryand wildlife.
