Seller: bygonetimesvintage (3,665) 100%, Location: Omaha, Nebraska, Ships to: US, Item: 264395212648 These old medicine bottles previously contained Radithor Certified Radioactive Water. The water was infused with Radium and Mesothorium in the belief that radioactive elements were healthy for you. Radithor was manufactured from 1918 to 1928, and these bottles date to the same period of time. The bottles retain their original cork stoppers. "Quack" medicine was popular in the late 1800s - early 1900s, and this is likely one of the worst ever produced. Radithor was billed as "cure for the living dead" and "perpetual sunshine". The "medicine" was made by Bailey Radium Laboratories of East Orange, New Jersey. There is an account of a wealthy American socialite who died from Radithor radium poisoning and was buried in a lead-lined coffin. The body was exhumed decades later, and the remains were still highly radioactive. Each bottle stands about 2.125", not including the cork, and is about 1.25" in diameter. These bottles are in Good Condition. There are no chips or cracks in the bottles, and they retain their original corks (with small cracks and chips). The bottles were stored in a box for decades. The paper label on one of the bottles has wrinkles due to the original application of the label. The paper labels on both bottles have minor chipping along the top and bottom edges. I have had questions regarding the authenticity of these bottles. Here is the back story: I stumbled upon a box of 20 or so of these bottles several years back at a local outdoor antiques market. The first bottle I sold went to the USGA Museum in Liberty Corner, NJ. The black, cardboard-type box was sectioned to hold 30 bottles, perhaps a month's supply. The box is correct for the period, and I believe it was built to hold these bottles. Many of the bottles have rub marks from decades spent in the box. In short, I am nearly certain these are authentic originals, rather than reproductions. I base this on the box and the condition of the bottles in box. I've attached a photograph of the box (PICTURED BOX AND CONTENTS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION). Thank you for your interest! Condition: These bottles are in Good Condition.
