Seller: artemisgallerylive (36) 100%, Location: Louisville, Colorado, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 263842552525 LOT 29ASeller's Estimate: USD 1,500 - 2,500 Ancient Greece, ca. 3rd century BCE. Skillfully delineated in high relief, a hollow cast, silver head of a goddess, perhaps Aphrodite, also presenting traces of gilding which are most pronounced on her diadem but also grace her face and coiffure. The sculptor of this piece modeled the beautiful goddess of romantic love with the utmost sensitivity and skill. She is depicted with her head ever so slightly tipped to the right, her coiffure swept back with painstakingly delineated wavy tresses, adorned by a diadem. The goddess' elegant, oval face presents a rounded forehead, almond-shaped eyes, an arched browline that merges with the bridge of her nose, a soft rounded chin, and full, bow-shaped, pursed lips. Look closely and you will also see that the goddess' neck is lined by a collar with a zigzag motif that matches that of her diadem. What attention to detail! A beautiful piece with a naturalistic yet idealized visage befitting of the goddess of beauty and romantic love! Size: 1.5" W x 1.625" H (3.8 cm x 4.1 cm); 2.875" H (7.3 cm) on included custom stand.
