Offering a very rare Art Nouveau sterling silver figural lorgnette by Unger Brothers. Circa 1890’s.
This fine antique lorgnette possesses many design elements of the Art Nouveau era. A central sleeping maiden with long hair amidst floral and leaf decoration. The other side reveals a different image. A large central Iris blossom and leaves festooning down the handle. Tremendous blown out repousse' workmanship of which Unger Brothers is well known. Original hang ring still present. Signed, Unger, Sterling. No monogram.
Measuring: 4 3/4” Long, 1 1/4” Wide. Weighing; 34.01 Grams or 1.2 Oz.
The condition of the S/S body is prefect. No damage or wear. The mechanism works properly. Only a slight nudge necessary to set the lenses in motion and open completely. Both springs are very strong. The patina to the sterling silver is incredible and is about the best I've ever seen.
