A MUSEUM QUALITY LATE 18TH CENTURY BOSTON, MA WINDSOR SIDECHAIR ATTRIBUTED TO THE FIRM "SEAVERS & FROST", CIRCA 1799-1803, WITH 8 TURNED BULBOUS PIPE-STEM SPINDLES AND A WELL DEFINED STEM BENT BOW. BOSTON, CIRCA 1799-1803

This is a fantastic example of a very rare and important Windsor chair.

ALTHOUGH UNSIGNED, IT IS DEFIANTLY A PRODUCT OF SEAVERS & FROST A CHAIR MAKING COMPANY FROM BOSTON, MA THAT WAS IN BUSINESS FROM 1799-1803.

THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE IN WONDERFUL CONDITION.
There are no repairs, restorations or additions to this chair.

THE SURFACE IS A GREAT OLD GRUNGY 19TH CENTURY REFINISH WITH TRACES OF ITS ORIGINAL RED THROUGHOUT.

For a similar example see, "The Windsor Style in America", by Charles Santore, and "American Windsor Chair", by Evans.

Also, this is taken from a book on Boston furniture:

By 1799, Seaver had formed a partnership with Nathaniel Frost that continued until 1803. The shop, at the sign of the “Golden Chair” on State Street, was adjacent to Long Wharf. Windsor work in the new bamboo style was standard production, but the partners also created a small body of highly innovative furniture, illustrated here in two examples. The curved medallion-ornamented stretcher of the side chair likely reflects inspiration from imported English Windsors. The swelled feet seem a holdover of earlier Rhode Island design. The nodular spindles add visual interest to the chair back, although they lack a flare at the base. The even number of spindles is unusual, both in Boston work and in that of other geographic areas. Seven or nine spindles are the norm in bow-back chairs of the late eighteenth century, and part of the partners’ other work in the curved-stretcher pattern has nine spindles. Some curved-stretcher chairs have arms, and at least one set of six side chairs is known. Another set of six bow-back, bamboo-style side chairs marked by Seaver and Frost employs crossed stretchers. One stretcher is rear-centered by a small grooved ball; the second stretcher is a rod that passes through the ball. Individual examples also are known.
