The Sanborn Company was established in 1917 by Frank B. Sanborn (1863-1958), a retired pro-fessor of civil engineering at Tufts University. The firm entered the medical field, with an electrocardiograph, in 1924; and the electronics field in 1935. It was acquired by (and became a subsidiary of) HP in 1961.
