Mid-Century Modern Design Made in Denmark in 1964-69, we believe. 22.5 cm Tall x 7.7" Across 9" x 3" Very unusual design of perhaps old Viking signs. The Colors are so typical for the period: Aqua on a motley gray green background. Hard to describe, best to enjoy the photos taken in natural light. It is in excellent condition. No Condition issues at all. This piece came from a collection of Danish Mid-century Pottery. Shows no wear. Back stamp information: This is an older mark, created just for the Faience produced by ROYAL COPENHAGEN Hand Written Piece Number: 712/3259 "3259" is also impressed. As noted above, the first 3 numbers are the decoration and the bottom 4 numbers are the form number. Now a bit about BACA, Aluminia and Nils Thorsson. From my on-line research I learned the following: BACA was the last of the many series that was a result of the experience and experiments of the Artist Nils Thorsson. The BACA period was from 1964-69 when Nils retired. In 1964, the series was developed on the basis of a new silk-screening technique, I believe called "Aluminia". This technique used by Nils and a number of younger artists, gives the pieces a character of their own, with closely interwoven patterns in subtle colors. It was named BACA, which is the Latin word for “ring”. The signature of the artist is therefore shown in a ring on the back of each piece in the series. Most of the forms were designed by Nils Thorsson. Ellen Malmer (EM) designed 14 forms and a few were designed by the other artists: Johanna Gerber, Beth Breyen, Inge Lise Koefoed, Anne Marie Trolle, and Ivan Weiss. The 94 different forms are known with 105 different decorations. The items are marked with two numbers. The first number is the decor number (above the line) and the number under the line is the form number. So there will be a total number of about 200 different BACA-items. Thanks for looking and enjoy the photos.
