Seller: heidi.dbd (272) 100%, Location: Downieville, California, Ships to: Free Local Pickup, Item: 183745373095 Up for sale here is the " Winrod/ Coyote Placer" claim, a very rare, massive, 150 acre unpatented gold mining claim located just 1 mile west of Downieville, California! Easy access and only 1/4 mile from the road! I have been all over his claim and there are 3 small creeks on it as well as an old Lode Mine entrance that is collapsed. The Winrod claim is approx. 1 mile from the famous Standard Mine in Sailor Ravine. The Winrod claim was originally owned by T.E. Winrod back in the early 1900's and is located in Coyote Ravine. This is a prime location for gold as anyone in the hobby of recreational prospecting knows, Downieville, Ca is in the heart of Gold Country! The Mother Load area of the Sierra Nevada's is possibly the richest area in the country for Gold with a vast history of gold extraction for over 150 years! Serial # of this claim is: CAMC #302376 The original claimant of the " Winrod/ Coyote Placer" claim was a man by the name of Thomas Eli Winrod, historical documents describe Mr. Winrod as a tough and determined sort that actually made a round trip hike of 91 miles to cast a vote in an election back in the early 1900's. Some history of the Winrod claim has been found online, here is a brief paragraph found printed in the " San Francisco Call", ( Volume 107, Number 166, 15 May 1910). " Coyote Ravine StrikeDownieville is much encouraged over the mining strikes that have been made in that vicinity during the last few months and a lively summer is anticipated. Recently T. E. Winrod of Downieville made a find in Coyote ravine, about a mile- from- the Standard mine, that promises to develop into something good. -Winrod bonded some claims from William Watson and Henry Morse and has been doing some surface prospecting, running cuts and sinking shafts. He uncovered an entirely new vein that is on the contact and free gold ore has been found. The vein is a true fissure lead and gold can be easily seen in the rock with the naked eye. It is Winrod's intention to go right ahead and. develop his new discovery. He was formerly interested with Jason Frye in the Standard property, which continues to yield rich ore." I have located the entrance to the shaft referenced in the above article, ( pictures), the entrance has collapsed over the years but I have no doubt it could be re-opened by someone determined to do so. I have ore samples from the entrance but have not sent them in for assay at this time, but the ore does look promising to say the least.
