Seller: worleyenterprisesinternationalllc (5,114) 99.9%, Location: Auburn, Alabama, Ships to: US & many other countries, Item: 273646667425 Up for auction is this awesome Pre Columbian pottery piece. It is made of clay and it is in the image of a Person. It came from Central Honduras and is all original. It is estimated to be from around 1200 AD. It is in great condition for its age, but check all of the photos out. The face can be easily made out. It looks to be clay. There are some minor chips and cracks. I bought it from a private collection based out of the USA. I have looked closely at it and noticed the small cracks on the toes look consistent with natural breaking, and the molding looks to be hand carved (as opposed to modern molding). In addition to this, the outer stone is colored darker than the inner which speaks to its authenticity. It is slightly “dirty”. This would make an awesome gift!! Don’t pass it up! Some info on pre columbian peoples: Pre-Columbian Artifact Of A Mayan God Figure. Estimated more than 500 yrs old. Pre-Columbian era incorporates all period subdivisions in the history and prehistory of the Americas before the appearance of significant European influences on the American continents. Many pre-Columbian civilizations established hallmarks which included permanent settlements, cities, agriculture, civic and monumental architecture, major earthworks, and complex societal hierarchies. Pre-Columbian art refers to the visual arts of indigenous peoples of the Caribbean, North, Central, and South Americas until the late 15th and early 16th centuries, and the time period marked by Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas. Pre-Columbian art thrived throughout the Americas from at least 13,000 BCE to the European conquests. Many Pre-Columbian cultures did not have writing systems, so visual art expressed cosmologies, world views, religion, and philosophy of these cultures. During the period before and after European exploration and settlement of the Americas, indigenous native cultures produced a wide variety of visual arts, including painting on textiles, hides, rock and cave surfaces, bodies especially faces, ceramics, architectural features including interior murals, wood panels, and other available surfaces.
