Item:283744269300Just in from an estate sale, we have a pleasure to offer you this Best of the Best RARE Subject Monumental 19th Century English Hand Painted Porcelain Double-sided Urn. Featuring a British Royal Navy battle scene in the high seas on one side, and a Mythological "Aurora" entering the heavens scene on the other side. Most likely Royal Crown Derby example, although without marks, but of the unsurpassed quality that is truly the best of the best ! There are multiple naval tall ships bearing British standards, which is a rare occurrence for porcelain makers, making it most likely a presentation urn for high ranking officers. Painted sides are divided by the handles in shape of the gold covered goat / ram with long horns. Base and neck are done in gilt decoration on oxblood base. Condition is good, with minor chips around the top opening. Size is massive 16.5” tall, 11" wide handle to handle, and 9.5" deep. This can be a crown jewel of any collection, be it porcelain or militaria collection, a super rare bird !
