This Listing is for an Authentic Antique Japanese Arita Imari Porcelain Plate / Charger from the Meiji period, circa 1850.  The Hand painted Plate has an underglaze and an overglaze of enamels and gold.  The Plate is 12” inches diameter, 1 ¾” inches deep and weighs 2 pounds, 9 ounces.  Though this Plate is around 175 years old it’s amazing that there are very few Condition issues.   First off -- No Chips. No Discoloration. No Repairs.  There are Imperfections -- Two Dark Marks on the Plate’s underside (see listing pic #5) but both Dark Marks were almost certainly  created during the Original Kiln firing. There are Consistent-with-Age Issues -- Though most of the Gold Gilt is still present, some of the Gilding has been lost. Small Parts of the Hand Painted Lines have also disappeared (see pic #6).  Lastly, there is a very small area on the underside of plate (see listing pic #7) that has a light-Yellow  Substance of some kind on the surface. It is barely visible, even if one was looking for it.  More Info on the Imari Plate Artwork:  Hallmarks were not used when these Plates were created in 1850. The Colors, the Creatures Featured  in the Art and Elements of the design is what dates this plate to the Meiji Period. The Cranes on the Plate symbolize longevity. All the Cranes featured in the Art also have Red on the top of  their heads, which symbolizes “Life” or “Vitality” in Japan.  The depiction of the Eagle in Japanese Culture has for many years represented Strength and Courage.   Let us know if you have any questions.  And be sure to check out other similar items in the Collectibles Category in our eBay Shop.
