Tudric Pewter with Large Enamel Landscape by Fleetwood Charles Varley set into top – Arts and Crafts Era - Early 1900’s This beautiful large antique pewter jewellery box is a rare example of one of the largest jewellery box designs attributed to Archibald Knox who designed on behalf of Liberty & Co. in the early 1900s. The box has a oversize base and lid which gives the box a very elegant shape. The box has the Tudric Pewter mark which was unique to Liberty & Co. It has a smooth pewter finish with minor wear commensurate with age. The lid of the jewellery box is set with a large enamel hand-painted landscape by Fleetwood Charles Varley. The landscape depicts a woodland scene at dusk/night. The lid is curved and raised at the centre with a beautiful finish. The inside of the box is lined with a Sage Green Satin/Silk with Velvet detail on the upper tray which has a pinched bar for inserting pins/earrings, two flat trays and an inner tray with circular velvet frame for displaying a bracelet or brooch. My great-grandmother purchased the box in the late 1910's early 1920's, so it has been with our family for about 100 years. Creator Liberty & Co.
