Picturing "New France (Louisiana)" ,The Mississippi River, Spanish Florida, Du Canada, and the English Colonies.The map is very detailed showing many many rivers, off- shore islands, and lakes. It also depicts hand-colored images of animal life as well as Native American tribes. There are four car-touches of Whaling, Niagara Falls, and one of the earliest depictions of the ports of Quebec and New York! Ilinois is also depicted. Fascinating. The lower right corner shows the arms of the Compagnie du Mississippi entitled INS. GALL SOCIETATIS INDAE OCCIDENTALIS. And below is a pelican which would later become the state bird of Louisiana. Most examples thus reference the original publication date, c. 1690. Many have not survived. Condition: 1" tear on upper part of fold has been taped on reverse. Aging and deterioration to edges. Median folding is part of the original atlas.
