Striking and rare fine antique silver wire Japanese cloisonné vase from the Meiji era (1868 - 1912). The vase is in round form and has a classic "Golden Age" shape with short, wide neck, flared mouth, and rounded body tapering down to a flared out foot.   The vase has brass fittings including rims and base and throat plates. The artistry of this vase is found in the composition of the design, the strong black and white contrasts, and the wonderful shading of the bamboo stalks. The vase has a "monumental" feel beyond its height in inches because of this bold composition.    The area or view on the of the vase only covers part of the whole bamboo stalks, as if one were viewing the bamboo only a few inches away from it, or as a close-up view on a camera.   There is one large bamboo stalk that does not show the top or bottom of the plant or any leaves but merely one section of the stalk and the top of the stalk appears to fade into the background of the vase.  Also, the smaller stalk is just a section of the full stalk but it has some leaves. The top of this stalk depicted on the vase also fades into the background.   The stalks are entirely rendered in gray-scale colors and appear as a black and white photograph.  Extra thick wire is used to render the large stalk, the thickest wire we have seen on Japanese cloisonné.  The background is a pale blue green color.  The vase has a matte finish.  A small standard cloisonné border is at the bottom - perhaps just so you will remember you are looking at cloisonné. The vase is 9" tall.  It is signed to the base with the impressed mark containing a  kanji character. The character is very difficult to read due to the impression.   Excellent antique condition.   There is a small 1/4 inch transparent (unstained) stress line at the top rim.   Low reserve for this amazing piece.
